New cemetery services for Mt Garnet, Herberton and Ravenshoe

Friday, 9 July 2010

A Garden of Remembrance featuring native plants will be established at Mt Garnet cemetery to provide people with a better option to inter their loved one's ashes at the facility.

The Mt Garnet Cemetery currently has no dedicated area for the burial of ashes, meaning those who wish to inter their loved one's ashes must purchase a full grave site.

Council will now establish the native Garden of Remembrance. A small concrete marker will be installed at each site and Council will attach a plaque to the marker if supplied by the customer. A fee of $250 per burial will cover garden construction costs, maintenance, administration and interment costs plus the provision of the concrete marker.

At Ravenshoe and Herberton cemeteries, new columbarium walls have been completed. Council resolved to approve a fee of $400 to purchase a single niche in the wall. In addition, residents will need to pay for the placement of the ashes and the engraving of the granite cover.
